This song was written for my mom who has been suffering from dementia and is now living in a memory care facility. Not recognizing that this is where she lives now, sometimes she'll ask one of us if we can pick her up and take her home. My love for her and her unending desire to find her way back home was the inspiration for this song.

Lyrics

When I was young, I’d go play out in the fields
Running through tall rows of grain
Higher than my young eyes could see
Couldn’t tell where I was or where I had been
That’s when I heard you call to me

If you get lost and are feeling scared
And if you can’t find your way home
Call to me and I’ll run to you
I’ll run to you and bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home

When I grew up and went out on my own
Trying to make it all alone
Lost myself somewhere along the road
Couldn’t find my way back home
That’s when your words came back to me

If you get lost and are feeling scared
If you can’t find your way home
Call to me and I’ll run to you
I’ll run to you and bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home

Throughout my life, you were always there for me
You picked me up when I got knocked off of my feet
When I got lost and couldn’t find my way
I’d hear your voice and the words you’d always say

If you get lost and are feeling scared
If you can’t find your way home
Call to me and I’ll run to you
I’ll run to you and bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home

But as you aged, that mean old Father Time
Played his tricks and stole the memories from your mind
Making you leave the home you’d always known
Keeps you looking for the way to get back home
Now it’s my turn to say

If you get lost and are feeling scared
If you can’t find your way home
Call to me and I’ll run to you
I’ll run to you and bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home
I’ll bring you home
